Asteroid To Pass Within 8000 Miles Of Earth

An asteroid will pass within 8,000 miles of Earth on Monday, June 27, 2011, at about 1:00pm EDT. The asteroid, known as 2011 MD, is estimated to be 20 to 65 feet across. There is no chance it will hit Earth on this approach, and almost no chance when it returns in 2022. Scientists believe if the asteroid did hit Earth, it would harmlessly explode in the upper atmosphere.
